BLUE MOON FARM
VARIETAL GARLIC OFFERINGS 2008
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
11/1/08-
We are sold out of many of our varieties. Please email with your
preferences before sending an order to check on availability! garlic@bluemoongarlic.com
Garlic harvest time on Blue Moon Farm is
approximately mid- June to mid- July. We begin shipping
the beginning of August. There is only a limited supply of fresh Blue
Moon Farm garlic, so we suggest ordering early to reserve your first preferences.
Actual quantities won't be known until harvest is in progress. We
reserve the right to substitute where we can't supply your first choice.
Our policy is to hold your check until we ship. See
order form.
Don't forget!! Our garlic
powder is available year 'round. It's the next best thing to
fresh!
(Now available hickory smoked too!)

Every year we trial a
number of varieties of garlic, in our search for the ones best suited to
our palate and our soil. For 2008 we are growing 25 varieties, some tried
and true, some new ones we hope you'll like, smaller quantites of a few
we're still trying to coax along, and some too limited to even list here
. Many of these limited quantity varieties may be used in our "Chef's
Delight" and sold at our Farmers' Market. Please
see order form for prices.
For
good garlic flavor all year 'round, how about some Blue Moon Farm GARLIC
POWDER?? It stores just about forever, and is a great, easy pick-me-up
for winter meals.

To our Lexington
Kentucky friends, each year we will continue to have garlic at the Good
Foods Market on Southland Dr and Liquor Barn- Hamburg , until they are
sold out. Eat good food cooked using our garlic at Dudley's Restaurant,
Good Foods Cafe, A.P. Roots Restaurant. Learn to be a chef using
our garlic at Sullivan University Lexington!
GREAT NEW LEXINGTON
RESTAURANT!!! A.P. ROOTS on Romany Road. These folks are dedicated
to serving the best Kentucky has to offer! They buy as many local
products as possible (including our Garlic and Garlic Scape Pesto!!) and
have our old friend Robert Myers as the chef. Robert was chef at
the famous Peabody Hotel in Memphis some years ago, then relocated to Kentucky
to chef in his own and other fine establishments. His association
with Roots is a great match....he's having a ball, and creating delicious,
creative food for the Lexington community. Give them a try!

-
MUSIC- Our
most vigorous grower, pioneered by Canadian, Al Music. Good
strong flavor. This large garlic features 5-8 BIG cloves per head,
and is an excellent roaster. A favorite of the garlic lovers at our
farmers' market, andsome of KY's best chefs!
SOFTNECK (Category A-Bulk):
$10.00
per LB
HARDNECK (Category B-Limited):
Limit 1/2 LB per variety. $8.00
per 1/2 LB
-
BELARUS- A Purple
Stripe variety. 7-9 cloves per bulb. Quite mild flavor.
-
CHINESE HARDNECK-
This unusual garlic is actually a bolting softneck....a softneck which
puts up a scape! We love it because it is the hands-down earliest
good-sized bulbs we grow. We started with 5 LB of this one 2 years
ago, and it did so well that we've kept most of it for seed. We are
selling our smaller bulbs, 2" or less, again this year in order to
double our seed garlic for next year. Pungent and delicious.
-
GERMAN WHITE-
Imported from Germany about 11 years ago by N.Y. grower Dave Piedmont.
Another variety with very large cloves, a potent, but not hot flavor when
eaten raw. A consistently vigorous grower for us.
-
KILLARNEY RED- A
Rocambole from Idaho. Better adapted to wet conditions. Good
strong flavor, easy to peel.
-
ONTARIO PURPLE TRILLIUM-
Moderate to strong heat. Purpla clove wrappers. A Canadian
breed.
SIBERIAN-
Actually a misnomer, as this Porcelain garlic is originally from Ukraine.
This strong, spicy Slavic treasure has 4-7 large cloves and is a good storage
garlic.
SOFTNECK (Category B-Limited):
Limit
1/2LB per variety per order. $8.00 per 1/2 LB
-
FRENCH
RED- We tried this variety for the first time 2 years ago, and
we like it! Flattish bulbs contain approximately 10 nice size cloves.
Strong flavor, meaty bulbs. Very limited amount available.
-
INCHELIUM-
Up to 20 fat cloves. Gentle yet firm flavor. Good storage.
Originally discovered on the Colville Indian Reservation in Washington
State. One of the first garlics we harvest each year.
-
MACHASHI- A perennial
favorite of ours for its wonderful complex flavor. (It's also the
name of our kitty!) Good storage qualities, and a dozen or more cloves
per bulb. Originally from Russian Georgia. Smallish this year.
-
OREGON BLUE-
An heirloom Artichoke variety from the North West. Nice hot flavor,
good storage.
-
POLISH WHITE-
Also known as N.Y. White. We've grown this one for a long
time! Our stongest flavored softneck. Average 10-12 large cloves
per head. Good storage. Try it roasted!
-
RUSSIAN RED TOCH-
(Different than Russian Red Rocambole) An Artichoke type garlic with
a slightly milder flavor, making it the perfect choice for eating raw.
A favorite of Chester Aaron, the author of
Garlic Is Life.
-
SICILIAN -
Artichoke variety. Good producer. Long storage. Nice size bulbs,
fairly mild flavor.
-
SILVER WHITE-
A softneck variety containing 8-10 cloves per bulb. Good keeper,
good braider.
