BLUE MOON FARM VARIETAL GARLIC OFFERINGS 2011

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Garlic harvest time on Blue Moon Farm is approximately early-June to mid-July. We start shipping the beginning of August.

There is only a limited supply of fresh Blue Moon Farm garlic, so we suggest ordering early to reserve your first preferences. Actual quantities won't be known until harvest is in progress. We reserve the right to substitute where we can't supply your first choice. Our policy is to hold your check until we ship. See order form.
Don't forget!! Our garlic powder is available year 'round. It's the next best thing to fresh!

In May of 2010, 12 inches of rain in 18 hours cause the Kentucky River to flood our river bottom garlic beds. In talking to some of the "old timers" on Poosey Ridge, we found that even 70 year olds had never seen the river that high, and for that duration. When the water went down, some of the garlic fields, our spring greens beds and our big old rosemary plants were encased in mud. Without oxygen for that many days, the plants suffocated, and we had no choice but to plow them under.

Our harvest was severely impacted, and we had only about 70% of our normal supply of garlic to market last year. We lost some of our hard to obtain varieties, and things we had been nursing along for years. As a result, we must rebuild our seed stock this year, so the number of varieties we offer will be down. With luck, we should have our supplies built back up next year.

All that being said, we are very thankful that this is the first time in our 24 years on the farm that we have lost crops to the river!
